你好!nǐ hǎo (Hi)

  1. To be frank, Chinese speakers prefer nodding to saying hello.  
  2. Although 你好 is the correct “hello” in Chinese, we prefer 哈囉 (pronounced like “ha lo”) in our daily lives which comes from English “hello.”  
  3. When we are saying hello to a stranger, we may use 你好, but 您好 to in a formal occasion.  
  4. When we just arrive at the office, we may say 早安.  
  5. When we are going to bed, we may say 晚安.  
  6. Although 午安 is “good afternoon” , we aren’t used to saying this in the afternoon.  
  7. 早上好/下午好/晚上好 are preferred in a speech.
